May is here.
Flowers are in bloom, my college semester is winding down, and summer’s on my doorstep. May is my favorite spring month. It’s the heart of spring, the early outset of summer, and I always find I take more moments to appreciate spending time in nature, as well as getting back into journaling and reading more books for fun.
I have so many expectations and desires for this month, and while I don’t expect all of them to come true, I hope I can see the manageable items on my May bucket list through.
Museum dates (with myself!)
I haven’t been to a museum since last summer, and there’s something strangely purifying about wandering around a museum and getting lost in the collections of art and artifacts, discovering beauty by accident, whether in marble or paint, along the way. I’ve been meaning to go back to one of my favorites (MoMA or the Met!), but since I’ve been in college, I haven’t had the time to visit. Now that the semester is winding down, I hope to visit (even if just to visit my old friends, aka my favorite paintings and sculptures) and take a look at new installations. Hopefully, I’ll get some inspiration for new poetry…
Adventures (in Greece!)
I’m studying abroad for the first time this summer, and I'm heading off to Greece at the end of the month. I’m so excited to eat new foods and try new dishes, visit historic sites and ruins, and expand my knowledge of the country and its culture.
A few of my friends are traveling with me, and I’m so excited to get to explore Greece with them. There’s something to be said about traveling alone, but being with people you trust and love to be around, and further developing those bonds, is so special. Maybe I’ll make some new friends, too.
Yacht Rock
The warmer the weather gets, the more I slip into my old summer habits, namely blasting my favorite yacht rock playlist on Spotify (see below!). I could listen to Steely Dan all day while taking a walk on the beach.
One of my favorite things about yacht rock is that you don’t need to be on a yacht to enjoy it. It’s a state of mind, of relaxation and letting your worries drift off into the sea for a while. It’s one of my favorite genres to get me into my ideal summer vibe.
I’ve been looking to find more yacht rock gems, so if you know any, feel free to drop them in the comments.
Here’s hoping May is good to you as it is to me!
